Making Space for Life to Show Up

When I was building the first spiritual center I’d lead, a group of three of us founders would gather together once a week to vision, pray, and study together for almost two years. As we were interested in a mystical center beyond any one particular religion we would spend at least half of our time in the Field creating a welcome space in Consciousness. We came to appreciate the importance of making space. Making space in The Field. Making space on our calendar. Making space for others when people are grieving or having a rough time. Space making become a spiritual practice for each of us.

This summer I decided to “clear the decks.” I had two primary intentions: 1. to tend to my health to create inner strength for my body and 2. to complete incompletions. The rest of my calendar was left wide open. Then I watched what came forward and it amazed me. So much of what I love came to find me. The first half of the summer I stayed home. I worked out a lot. I planted two above ground gardens (which are producing beautifully). I cleaned out a lot of my home and I made literal space by having room where there was once stuff. Then I was invited to speak at a church I love on Vashon Island, my friend’s beloved husband died and had his memorial service around the same time, Spokane friends were taking a road trip to the area to attend two Pamela Benton concerts. A client wanted help in implementing an AI program. So what started as nothing turned into three weeks of meaningful travel. Every day full of exactly what needed to take place. Then my former next door neighbor called to ask if I would dog sit and speak at his church later in the summer. Yes. Another friend couldn’t attend CSL summer camp and offered me her spot as a gift. Yes. And I was asked to facilitate a spiritual advisor’s two day retreat. Yes. Everything I love came and found me when I made space for it.

This last Tuesday I spoke a bit about how what unfolded felt a lot like Love to me. I met a sea being called the Moon Snail which was new to me. I became fascinated by its “foot” which looks like a razor clam or Geoduck’s neck only wider. I couldn’t get over its reproductive “ring” it creates full of seeds made of mucous and sand and as hard as leather. There is so much in this beautiful world I have not seen and will never see before I leave it. I hugged a lot of friends and received the generosity of being hosted in their homes. The sun shone every day and with it the Puget Sound sparkled. I took a side journey to Las Vegas where I went to the new Sphere and saw the movie experience Postcard from Earth which was 45 minutes of Life being reflected back to me in its many forms while having a viceral experience of it, not just a visual one. When there was wind on the screen, there was wind in the studio. When there were monks with incense at the temple the room smelled of incense. The movie showed the destruction of earth AND the saving of it by Love.

I truly believe Love IS the untapped resource within each of us begging to be unleashed. This is what mystic Hafiz says:

Light will someday Split you open
Even if your life is now a cage.
Little by little, you will turn into stars.
Little by little, you will turn into
The whole sweet, amorous universe.
Love will surely burst you wide open
Into an unfettered, booming new galaxy.
You will become so free in a wonderful,
Secret and pure love that flows
From a conscious, one~pointed, infinite light.
Even then, my dear, the beloved will have fulfilled
Just a fraction, just a fraction!
Of a promise he wrote upon your heart.
For a divine seed, the crown of destiny,
Is hidden and sewn on an ancient, fertile plain
You hold the title to.
O, look again within yourself,
For I know you were once the elegant host
To all the marvels in creation.
When your soul begins to ever bloom and laugh
And spin in eternal ecstasy.
O, little by little, you will turn into God.

Blessings to you this week and always,

Reverend Bonnie
