Summer is My Favorite Season

All seasons have their strengths and their inconveniences. There is NO doubt that my favorite time of year is summer. Summer is a time associated with being off of school, on vacation, relaxing, swimming, and enjoying the long warm days. In the Pacific Northwest summer foods include berries, peaches, and plums. Yum. Fresh vegetables like corn on the cob, cucumbers, green beans and tomatoes. And the fish…salmon and halibut. Almost every household has a grill at the ready to make an outdoor meal and lawn chairs litter backyards.

I love nature. I love the outdoors. I love being warm. As nature bursts into full bloom and sunlight lingers long into the evening, summer mirrors the soul’s own yearning to expand, express, and awaken. This season, drenched in sunlight, is an invitation to embody Divine Light more fully—to live with openness, joy, and a heart aligned with Divine rhythm.

In many spiritual traditions, Light is symbolic of Truth, Clarity, and Divine Presence. Summer offers Abundant Light—not just physically, but metaphorically. It’s a time when we can more easily “see” ourselves and our path. Just as the sun illuminates the earth, we may find our inner lives illuminated with insight, clarity, and vision. Practices like meditation in the early morning sun, silent walks in nature, or journaling under the stars can become sacred rituals that help us connect to the still, small voice within.

Summer is a season of fullness and fruition. The seeds planted in spring begin to manifest into fruit, both in gardens and in our lives. Spiritually, this is a time to reflect on what is blooming in us. Are we bearing the fruit of Love, Joy, and Truth? Are we living out the visions and intentions we’ve set? Summer asks us to pause and appreciate our Soul’s growth and unfolding—noticing how far we’ve come on our spiritual journey and offering gratitude for the abundance unfolding, even if quietly, within us.

Yet, amidst the outward energy of summer, there is also a gentle call inward. Long days allow for sacred solitude, time to listen, rest, and realign. As much as we enjoy outward activity, summer can be a time to deepen our spiritual practices—not as tasks to check off, but as ways to nourish the soul. Morning meditations, sunset prayers, evening gratitude reflections—all can become sacred rhythms that help us carry summer’s light into the depths of our being. Let it be a time of blossoming and breathing, of celebrating beauty and embodying presence whether through sunlit prayer, joyful connection, or quiet contemplation.

Blessings,
