Spiritual or Circumstantial Living

As many of you know, I have been a big fan of Rev. Michael Beckwith since the 1990s.

I first was introduced to him and Ricki Byars at Seabeck, a summer camp for my Seattle CSL community. A group of friends and I were so moved by his Presence and messages that we combined money and purchased his weekly sermons on audio tape to be mailed to us. Then we’d pass them around to each other and talk about what touched us. I would later go on to fly to Agape Spiritual Center, (Rev. Michael’s community in LA), which I always referred to as my Mother Ship. I would eventually move to LA for a year and throw myself into the community learning everything I could about an organization that put Spirit first.

Since the first tape I listened to in the 1990s and through the subsequent years, Rev. Michael would speak about living beyond circumstance. I can hear his voice in my ear saying”you don’t want to give your Power to worry, doubt and fear…Oh No, you don’t want to engage in circumstantial living.” I must have heard the phrase “circumstantial living” over one hundred times before I realized what it meant realizing simultaneously that was exactly what I was doing. When I was happy, life was GOOD. When I was having a bad day, life sucked and something was wrong with me, God, or someone/something else. When I saw this within me I was able to understand what Rev. Michael was talking about. I was looking at circumstances to determine my own well being….I was giving my power away AND I was forgetting that my Sacred Self knew what it was doing. When discomfort was on the menu it was because there was an aspect of me that was being uplifted, transformed, and sanctified. I wasn’t honoring the God within me by trashing circumstances.

I have been practicing spiritual living since the early 1990s. It is not easy at times living from Wholeness, Peace, Love, and Abundance when the world in all of its ways is saying “give me your attention….see the misery I represent over here.” Well, all of this practice has led me to today where our country and world will be changing. By all reports radically and against my value system. What to do when I am confronted with rapid undesired change that I didn’t order and my personality or Being rejects? Spiritual, not circumstantial living. What does this look like? Like it has for the past thirty plus years. POWERFUL daily spiritual practice. Meditation, prayer, spiritual study, mindfulness, the practice of seeing the Holy in all things, service, tithing, and spiritual community.

I invite you to join me in this. Now, more than ever, the ability to access The Inner Light will lead, guide, and heal us through some rocky times.

Speaking of tithing…if you are looking to support a spiritual message of Good, please consider giving to Spiritual Center Spokane. We are in our infancy and any size gift would be appreciated.

Know that You are Loved,

Reverend Bonnie

PS I will be starting a Zoom gathering space where we will practice spiritual living through our cultural changes beginning in January. Stay tuned.
